Distracted?…

Hello, friends! It is so nice to connect with you. I have missed human contact. Haha.

Just kidding, but not really.

We are full on puppy training over here. I know, I know. You are tired of the puppy talk but it is all I have right now. Bear with me. :)

I feel like a mom of a toddler. My days are filled with poop, pee, wiping up messes, and lack of sleep.

Clearly, I forgot about this stage of puppy parenting when we got our sweet Max three weeks ago.

I have to constantly tell myself…this too will pass! This will not last forever!

Every single time I take Max out to use the bathroom, he gets so distracted.

The birds chirping, a squirrel running up a tree, a car driving by, a neighbor out for a walk…it is always something.

I yank on his leash to get him to focus and he just gets so easily distracted.

After doing this several times this morning, I giggled out loud.

“Ok, Lord, I see what You are teaching me here. I am not much different than Max. My attention span is very little at times and the smallest of things can pull me away from You.”

If only Max could understand, our trips outside to potty would go much smoother and be much faster if he would just not get so easily distracted.

Hmmm…

My heart goes to things that so easily steal away my attention…

my phone…

a conversation that is bothering me…

worrying…

stewing over a matter when I need to forgive and pray…

discontentment…

The list goes on. I will stop here. You get the gist.

These things distract me from the place God wants my attention..

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8

There is a reason God wants to keep our minds and hearts fixed on these things…

Because distractions slow us down.

Often, leading us in wrong direction as well.

There is no fruit in those things that we do apart from Him.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

Maybe I should start teaching Max this scripture. Haha. Well, it sure would not hurt, right?

I mean, God’s Word is God’s Word. He is the Creator of all things…all living creatures.

We all bow to Him, sing praises to Him and worship Him.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1

All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. Psalm 104:27

Clearly, God is teaching me some things as I care for Max. He never wastes a moment to shape my heart and reveal things that need to be revealed

God is in the minutia of life. When we look for Him, we will always see Him.

Let’s not let distractions make us miss Him. Let’s keep close to Him, and I will try to teach Max the same. :)

fixing my eyes on Jesus,

jill
