What do you want…

Rise and Shine, sweet friends!

How is your Summer going so far?

As always, ours seems to be going by way too fast. Kids are in and out, days are long, but the months seem short. :)

How is your Bible reading going?

Crickets…

Just kidding.

I just know Summer can be hard to stay on track. Traveling, different schedules, kids home, grandkids home…just all the things.

This morning, King Solomon was on my heart in a big big way.

Solomon is the son of King David.

You know David…fought the giant and won with a single stone by a sling shot.

Greatest King to ever live…a heart like God’s…

Yes, that King David.

Well, his son Solomon came into power around 971 BC.

Solomon became known as “the wisest man to ever live”. 1 Kings 10:23

Wow!

Why was Solomon so wise?

Well, he asked God for wisdom.

In fact, God appeared to Solomon in a dream and said to him…”Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” 1 Kings 3:5

Solomon responded to that request by asking for wisdom.

Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours? 1 Kings 3:7-9

Okay, friends. Let’s park here for a second.

God comes to you in a dream and tells you to ask Him for anything….

What would your response be?

Be honest.

No matter what our answer to that question, we can learn a lot from Solomon by his response.

Instead of riches, and power, and success…or a beach house :)…he asks God for wisdom.

The very next verse says…

The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this.

God not only gives him wisdom, in abundance, but also everything else!

The posture of Solomon’s heart pleased and honored God.

Solomon was looking out for everyone else’s interest, not just his own.

Mmmm…such good good stuff.

Friends, we desperately need wisdom in our days.

In every part of our days.

Wisdom can only come from God.

You may have a degree from the greatest school in the world, but that will never make you wise.

Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Proverbs 8:10-11

With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver. Proverbs 8:18-19

Friends, we need wisdom as we parent. We need wisdom in every stage of parenting. From the newborn stage, until our children are full grown with their own families.

We need wisdom in our marriages…to know when to speak, and when to listen. To notice the needs of our spouse, to love them well, care for them well, and honor them well.

We need wisdom in taking care of our bodies.

To know what to do, or what not to do. God created our bodies and He designed them intricately. Often, He is telling us to avoid something, or to adhere to something, but we are seeking answers on google or chat gpt for help.

We need wisdom as we head out the door every single day.

Wisdom protects us. Wisdom guides us. Wisdom brings joy to us.

Those younger than us need to see what walking in wisdom looks like.

They need to see our generation not conforming to the patterns of this world…but conforming our hearts and our minds to scripture and worship.

They also need to be taught God’s Word, and we can do that through the way we live our lives. The words we say, or choose not to say.

Our actions scream what we really believe. We don’t have to even say a a word.

The world has nothing to offer. NOTHING.

God’s Way is the only way, His Wisdom is the only Way.

Yet, we often live divided lives.

Praying and asking for help…but living contrary to His Word.

Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Psalm 86:11

Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:129-130

Friend, we don’t have to know every scripture in the Bible to have wisdom. We just need to ask God for it…every single day.

Yes, reading God’s Word is a sure fire way to accelerate wisdom, but He can also impart it to us supernaturally when we ask for it.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." James 1:5

Let’s learn from Solomon.

Let’s ask for wisdom, daily!

God is so generous and so faithful, and so merciful. He will answer this prayer, and He will be pleased and honored by our asking.

asking for wisdom,

jill
