Target Angel…

Good morning and Happy Friday, sweet friends!!

This weather here in Georgia is just glorious!

Yes, it is hot.

Yes, I am perfectly fine with that!

I love when my legs stick to the seat of a hot car when I get in.

I know, I know, that is strange.

Confession time over. :)

I have the sweetest story to share with you!

Yesterday, I went to Target…one of my most favorite places to go.

I did my usual rounds in the clothing aisle, home decor aisle, card and stationary aisle, and then finally the makeup aisle.

As I was walking out of the store with my little Target bag in tow, a beautiful woman came up to me and put her arm around me and just laughed.

She told me a funny story as we walked out, as her arm is still around me.

I had no idea who this beautiful lady was.

She had on a pink shirt that read, “one loved mama”.

As we talked on the way to our cars, she informed me that she was 84 years old.

I stopped dead in my tracks as we were crossing that parking lot.

What?!

I looked at her beautiful glowing face and asked her the secret to her youthful appearance?

These days, I am always taking notes on things of such importance. :)

She looked me straight in the eyes and replied, “Just living a good life, honey.”

Well, I needed more details.

“Ok, so living a good life, like, in what way?”

She replied, “Pay for what you can in cash. Don’t get bogged down in debt. Live a simple life. Let your kids run free and don’t strap them in buggies. “

I giggled. Ok, note taken.

She then said, “And ponds cold cream. Every morning and every night.”

I asked her again…

“So, this is what you do to stay so energetic and joyful? You are glowing and in perfect health!”

She replied…”Yep! I was widowed at 37 with 5 kids. I am now on my third marriage. It was hard to be widowed at 37, but I did it and well, here I am.”

I desperately wanted to take her to lunch and ask more questions.

My mind was spinning.

“May I ask your name?” I finally asked her.

“My name is Glenda and I live in Monroe, Georgia.”

Honestly, I was having a hard time believing that she was 84. She was spunky and laughing and just so full of JOY!

In my heart I began to pray…Lord, I want to be like Glenda. Please let me be a ray of sunshine to those around me like she is!

She said again, I guess after looking at me more intently..,

“Ponds cold cream, honey. You can get it at Walmart or CVS.”

Clearly, she thought I needed it. Ha!

We parted ways and I could not stop thinking of Glenda.

Most days I ask for God to bring Divine Interventions in my path.

Let me tell you, He always answers!

This was certainly one of those days.

I had just left Bible study where we had actually talked about having open eyes to see these Divine interactions and God winks!

In fact, my beautiful friend, Pam, wrote an entire book of God wink stories! You can find it here on Amazon.

Here is my take away from meeting Glenda yesterday…

Don’t be afraid to talk to people around you.

Smile!!

Laugh!

Give some helpful advice to those in an earlier season of life than you.

Take advice and wisdom from those in later seasons of life than you.

Don’t suffocate your kids. Trust God with them.

Live simply.

Glenda probably has no idea the mark she made on my heart.

I wish I would have gotten her number, but I did not even think to get it.

Today’s Fun Friday Challenge…

Look for Glenda’s today!

or…

Be a Glenda today!

The world needs more Glenda’s.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
