I sought the Lord…
My pillow case!
Many years ago, I began blogging.
I began a family blog around 2008, and that is what began my writing journey.
Stories of my children, of friends, of happy times, of sad times…all of it are written in that little family blog from long ago.
So, as I share this story, it is in hopes that I will remember and never forget the absolute AWE AND WONDER of our God!
A God Who speaks to us, a God who listens to us, a God who LOVES us!
Recently, I shared a story of what happened to my daughter over the Summer. If you have not read it, you can find it here.
On the day of that life altering incident, as I went to the hospital to see her, I immediately headed toward the bathroom. It was over an hour drive to the hospital and my little bladder was full.
At the time, I had no idea the seriousness of the incident. I honestly assumed she just had a small concussion
Gosh, I was so wrong.
In that little hospital bathroom, as I was headed to the sink to wash my hands, I heard a whisper in my heart…
“She will not even smell like smoke…”
I won’t elaborate on the rest of the story, because I already wrote about it.
However, there is more to the story.
The second day in the hospital, we were all tired and still just very unsure of the prognosis. The neurosurgeon needed more tests before he could give us a clear picture of the injuries sustained to our daughter.
It was a waiting game and it was hard.
As I sat in that hospital chair near her bed, I decided we needed some Worship music.
Desperately, we needed some JOY in that room!
I found my apple itunes app on my phone, and just typed in “praise and worship songs.”
The first song that came on was this one…
“I trust in God” by Elevation Worship.
I want you to read the very first line of those lyrics in that song…
Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine
He's been my fourth man in the fire, time after time
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood
And what He did for me on Calvary is more than enough
Immediately, I knew that God was reaffirming that God was with her and she would not smell like smoke after all was said and done.
Remember, the story of Daniel and his friends in the fiery furnace…this is where the fourth man in the fire” verse comes from.
Astonished, King Nebuchadnezzar stood up in terror, and asked his advisors, “Didn’t we throw three men into the fire, bound firmly with ropes?”
In reply they told the king, “Yes, your majesty.”
“Look!” he told them, “I see four men walking untied and unharmed in the middle of the fire, and the appearance of the fourth resembles a divine being.” Daniel 3:24-25
You already probably know the rest of this story of Daniel…he and his friends came out the furnace and “did not even smell like smoke.” Daniel 3:27
So, when this song came on, the very first song that was played, a smile came across my tired face. I knew…she would be okay.
Well, it has been almost 7 months since the day of her incident on the lake…and she is doing so well. Praise Jesus!!
Just a few days ago, I was making up my bed. Making up beds is a super mundane and boring task, but not this time!
The song that had played in that hospital room was also playing on the Alexa as I was making up my bed.
My heart went back to that day in the hospital, tears began filling my eyes…
Then, the song came to the 6th verse…the chorus…
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That's why I trust Him, that's why I trust Him
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That's why I trust Him, that's why I trust Him
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That's why I trust Him, that's why I trust Him
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That's why I trust Him
I reached for the pillows that had fallen on floor and I gasped…
The pillow that I sleep on every single night, and have slept on for many years has this scripture written on it…
”I sought the Lord and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4
Friends!!! What are the chances that this very song that played that scary day in the hospital room talked about the fourth man in the fire, AND also had the same scripture that I had been sleeping on for many years!
I was literally in awe! It has been months since that day in the hospital room, yet I had never realized that part of the song with God’s Word was under my head each night.
As I am typing, my eyes are brimming with tears.
He is so Good.
He constantly shows us His Grace, His Presence, and His Mercy…
Most of the time, it is right under our noses…or our heads!
The threads of His Love are weaved into the fabric of our everyday lives…even our pillow cases!
Romans 1:19 says, For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
He delights to show Himself to us! We just so often overlook Him.
There is so much more to my daughter’s story…even concerning that very scripture in His Word. One day, hopefully she can share more and expound on that part of the story.
We all have God stories…we just often overlook them or chalk them up to coincidence.
Truly, I believe that when we start to “see” His Word and these moments, and share about them…He will reveal Himself more!
God speaks through His Word!
Both of these things…the verses in the song and the pillow under my head were His Words!
This is such an encouragement to all of us to read His Word! When we do, He speaks.
He will continue to speak.
As long as we continue to seek Him.
Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known". Jeremiah 33:3
Honestly, I never really had many God stories to share until I opened His Word and began reading it back in 2012.
God literally turned on the lights so I could see!!
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-6
Many of us are longing for a Word from God…a whisper from Him.
Oh friend, read His Word.
Seek Him with all of you heart and HE WILL BE FOUND. (Jeremiah 29:13)
These stories…these miracles…they are not unusual.
They happen all the time, every day in fact.
We need to share them…we need to encourage each other and sharpen each other with these stories of God!
They are fuel to our faith!
Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. Psalm 119:18
