Coffee Talk…
Every single morning I do the same thing.
I get up before anyone else, dark as pitch outside, brew my morning coffee, and sit on the couch.
Bible and journal in my lap, I start in my journal.
I make a list that begins…”I am thankful for…”
This one little thing that I do has changed me in so many ways.
I spent a lot of life not being thankful.
Yes, I may have been thankful at times, but a lot of the time I was anxious, worried and fearful.
Years ago, I would awaken with a knot the size of Texas in my stomach. I had a hard time eating some days, and I was just generally miserable.
Unless you knew me well, you would not have known it. I hid behind a toothy smile and trucked on through my days.
Pride-Part Two
Have I given us long enough to chew on Mother Theresa’s wise words on humility?
Sadly, I think it is a theme we may have to go back to weekly, if not daily, if not hourly.
Pride is the root of most sin.
Just look at Adam and Eve.
Pride made them want to be like God.
They wanted more, more, more.
Not content with the beauty, calm, peace and serene that surrounded them, their prideful hearts led them to death.
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
Certainly, Adam and Eve fell, and fell hard.
If you have ever been guilty of pride, and all of us have at some point, we can quickly remember the bitter sting of the fall that came after.
Pride— Part One…
It is a theme that pops up regularly in my heart and in my life.
I hate it. With a capital H.
It’s sneaky. It’s murderous. It’s detestable.
It’s pride.
The root of a lot of sin that we get tangled up with is pride.
It’s the deep seeded poison that ruins relationships, reputations, character, and love.
It’s the exact opposite of Jesus, our Savior.
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” Proverbs 11:2

Praises

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Rescue me from my enemies, O LORD, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
— psalm 143:8
